A few years ago, wall mounted cabinets in the kitchen were the fan favorite. But today, open shelves have become a common “wish list” item for homeowners. Maybe it’s the recent trend towards eliminating clutter – or maybe it’s the simplicity of having commonly used items at hand – it simply works. Floating wooden shelves are consistent with clean lines and minimalist style which makes them perfect for your flip project. Open shelves make a space feel more open too making them a perfect choice for smaller spaces. Plus – I love to add personal decorative elements to a kitchen so it feels more personal. Go ahead and show off your dishes, favorite plants or a prized cookbook collection.

Stained wood shelving works especially well in the classic all-white kitchens that buyers prefer. And if you are finishing the shelves, you have the freedom to stain them to complement or contrast other elements in the kitchen. Often we use a finish that ties in to any of the other stained elements in the space, such as the floors.

If a finish that ties into the cabinets to create a flawless transition is more your style, then painted open shelves are a perfect solution. Modern with clean lines make for a perfect way to elevate the style factor.

Even the installation of open shelves can provide another custom design opportunity. You can choose brackets or you can choose a floating installation for a clean and simple style.

I have installed open shelves in my own space because I truly loved the look. It turned out to be the easiest place to store my every day white dishes and made unloading the dishwasher a breeze. Whether your style is modern, rustic or vintage, there is an open shelving option for you.
