I would love to share a “before” photo so you can see the transformation but this space did not exist as a bathroom at all before I got my hands on it. I am a big believer that adding bathrooms is an investment worth making, Especially if it is to add one to a level of the home that lacked one previously. Bathrooms not only add value from an appraisal perspective but are functional too. It’s a bit odd to think of having a space with a family room or bedroom but leaving out the bathroom…but yet, I see it all the time.

Bright white subway tile in the shower is classic. We upped the modern vibe a bit by adding the dark grout and using a larger scale tile. The shelf niche is backed with the round white penny tile for shape interest.
The floor tile is truly where the magic is. Its graphic and bold without overwhelming the space. And while it is on trend the classic color combination make it a selection that will stand the test of time.
Using a vanity with a trough top sink adds an element of modern to offset the traditional bead board door and drawer accents . This style vanity can work with multiple styles when paired with other types of tile. Think black hex or faux wood. You can find this one here.

A couple other items to note. With the lower ceilings and soffits we got creative. (Those were needed for furnace duct work to the main floor). I opted for a round mirror. That allowed me to choose a larger size which reflects light in the space better than some other options. Since I could not find the size and shape in the finish I wanted I spray painted the frame on this as well. Notice the light above the mirror. Another tip when working in tight spaces look for lighting that can be installed vertically or horizontally.
So many ideas in such a small space. And don’t forget, bathrooms like accessories too. A natural sponge, bath salts, patterned hand towels, and inspirational art make this functional space fun too!
Love a black and white soap dispenser. The one pictured is from HomeGoods but here is a similar one from World Market.
Love a cute bath towel in a subtle chevron print.
The one pictured is from HomeGoods, but here is one from Target that I also love!
