It is very easy to feel overwhelmed by all of the amazing styled home images we see on Instagram and Pinterest. The great thing about them is that they provide tremendous inspiration and there are always variations that can be adapted to fit your space and budget. They are also a great way to determine what your preferred style may be. I have put together a list of some ideas for budget-friendly home upgrades. Some you may have thought of; some that may be new. The best part is that this list is mix and match. You can choose one budget-friendly home upgrade or you can choose several…it’s completely up to you!
My Go-To List of Budget-Friendly Home Upgrades
1. Paint
There is nothing that can transform the look of a space quicker and easier than a new color on the walls. Don’t be afraid to use dark colors if you looking for a more dramatic change. Still apprehensive? Also, consider painting one wall as an accent to see how you like it before committing to the entire room.
2. Rugs
Layering an area rug over existing carpet is a point of debate for many people. I am a fan. I love the added interest putting an area rug in a space brings. It can define spaces when you have an open floor plan or add another layer of color to larger neutral pieces like sofas and chairs.
3. Add interest with molding or trim
Shiplap, wainscotting, board and batten, reclaimed wood are all options for adding a custom element to a space.
4. Backsplash
There are so many options for backsplash you can find any price point. In Fact, white 3×6 subway at your larger home improvement stores can be one of your most cost-effective options. Also, if you are looking for something different there are patterned wallpapers that are removable and can bring some interest to the backsplash.
5. Change a light fixture
I love all the options in lighting especially those online. A great chandelier ups your game in a dining room or even a bedroom depending upon the ceiling height. In a bathroom, new lighting can modernize a space with an updated finish.
6. Replace a faucet
Here is an area in which I would suggest you may consider a bit of a splurge. When it comes to polished nickel faucets the finish tends to wear best on the higher end faucets (Delta and Moen especially).
7. Change out your cabinet hardware
There are more hardware options for cabinets than have ever been available. You can even find them at Target. There are some amazing online resources. I have even purchased hardware on Amazon.
Quick tip on replacing hardware: Measure the existing hardware BEFORE you purchase. You don’t want to find yourself with new hardware that leaves the prior holes exposed unless you are prepared to patch and paint the cabinet doors.
These simple budget-friendly home upgrades can have a huge impact in your current home or the fixer-upper you are renovating. Give one or more a try today!
